Hello!βπ½
As you know, after COVID-19 was declared a pandemic, my school gave us the option to go back home and study remotely , or to stay in the island but still end the semester online. After a lot of thought and with a lot of uncertainty, I decided to travel back home without knowing the challenges that awaited me and, honestly, having no plan whatsoever. Only knowing that there was a lock-down back home.
Thinking retrospectively, coming home to study was a challenge because of the whole COVID-19 situation, the school trying to help us out in the middle of this madness, missing my friends, and not having an idea of how to study a hands-on profession online π₯΄.
Being in a lock-down with all this uncertainty can definitely affect productivity and anyone’s mental health. Which, at the same time, could be reflected in a med students grades (my case). Today, 7-8 months later, I finally learned how to cope with the situation and with being stuck at home in online medical school. So, after a lot of struggling and a rollercoaster of emotions, I found what works for me and decided to share it with you.
So here we go…
On a normal day without having errands to run my (ideal) routine consists of the following:
8:30-9:30am-Inmediately after waking up I make myself a balanced breakfast and drink coffee β

After breakfast I do my morning higiene routine and a 10-15 minutes meditation session, 5-mins of journaling, and my to-do-list for the day. π§πΎββοΈ
I start overviewing lectures and doing Anki cards.
I start classes online or watch the recorded or live lectures π»
At mid-morning I take a break and eat a snack π
Back to studying (I create and review my Anki cards) π

12:30-1:00pm-I make myself lunch π₯ͺ
Classes moved an hour later so probably watching another Zoom live lecture while having lunch.
More studying (probably still working on Anki cards for another class) π
Snack 45mins-1 hour before working out. π
4:30-5:30pm- Working out and showering (45 mins-1 hour) ππΎββοΈ
Back to studying (Time to practice questions or do quizzes for a specific class) β¨
7:00-8:00pm- Dinner π²
At this time I’m doing research, extracurricular (online), or writing an article and doing what I call a “self-care exercise*” πΈπΎ

Usually 11:00 pm on normal days and 12:00am-1:00am on exam weeks -Go to bed π΄
*Some of my self-care exercises include meditating for a couple of minutes, journaling, lighting a candle, drinking a glass of wine, blogging, painting my nails, or wearing a facial mask, among others.
